MERCED, Calif. — A school dance got interrupted by a nearby shooting in Madera Thursday evening.
The Madera County Sheriff’s Office was called about a shooting in the area of Club Drive and Midland Way, which is adjacent to Berenda Elementary School.
Deputies learned a school dance was in progress—this resulted in a precautionary lockdown. Everyone at the dance was searched and cleared.
Officials say there was no immediate danger to those students, and all have been reunited with their parents.
It is believed that the shooting was an isolated incident and not part of the school function, nor did it happen on school grounds.
As for the shooting, details are very limited at this time. Investigators believe there were about four people involved.
