MACON, Ga. – Head women's golf coach Michele Drinkard announced the addition of Ella Mäki-Tanila to the 2023-24 roster. Mäki-Tanila joins the Bears as a freshman from Muurla, Finland.

"We are excited to have Ella join our Mercer women's golf family this fall," Drinkard said. "In preparation for college, Ella took a gap year to strengthen her game and has been training on her own and with her Finnish national program.  She may be soft spoken about her accomplishments, but she brings a vast amount of experience and loves to compete."

Mäki-Tanila ranked second in the 2022 Finnish Tour Rankings and is the 2022 Finnish National Stroke Play Champion. She also finished as runner-up in the 2022 Finnish National Match Play Championship and 2022 Finnish Strokeplay U21 Championship. Mäki-Tanila was tied for fourth at the 2022 Finnish Amateur Championship and was awarded an exemption for the 2022 Ladies European Tour Åland 100 Ladies Open. In 2019, she was the Finnish Match Play U18 Champion.

A member of the Finnish Girls National Team, Mäki-Tanila represented Finland at the 2021 European Girls' Team Championship. She was previously part of the Finland U18 Girls Team in 2018.

Mercer has a history of welcoming Finnish golfers as Mäki-Tanila is the fourth one in recent years to represent the Bears. She will join current student-athlete Camilla Järvelä, from Espoo, Finland, on the roster and follows in the footsteps of Karina Kukkonen, from Oulu, Finland, who is currently playing on the Ladies European Tour. On the men's side, Martin Plukka, from Espoo, Finland, was member of the men's golf team from 2018-22.
