Robbery suspect arrested while reclaiming towed car: Lyndhurst Police Blotter

A man attempting to steal Crocs footwear from Dick's Sporting Goods at Legacy Village put back the items when confronted by police and was issued a criminal trespass warning.

LYNDHURST, Ohio

Robbery: Cedar Road

At 1:40 p.m. March 15, a man stealing $70.29 worth of groceries from Giant Eagle, 25105 Cedar Road at Legacy Village, pushed an employee as he made his escape.

He was last seen running toward Dick’s Sporting Goods and behind the Hyatt Place hotel.

Although the suspect could not be found, his car was known to be parked in the Giant Eagle lot. Giant Eagle management knew the man’s car from his previous visits to the store. Police had the suspect’s car towed.

The man, 45, of South Euclid, was later arrested for robbery when he went to the police station to retrieve his car.

Attempted theft: Cedar Road

At 6:30 p.m. March 19, a staff member at Dick’s Sporting Goods, 24545 Cedar Road at Legacy Village, reported that a man had concealed two pairs of Crocs footwear.

Officers arrived while the man was still in the store. When confronted, the man put the Crocs back where he had found them.

In accordance with the store manager’s wishes, police issued the man a criminal trespass warning.

Psychiatric situation: Camberly Drive

At 4:40 a.m. March 18, a woman called police to her home because her son, 47, of Maple Heights, was experiencing a mental health issue. He was behaving erratically and yelling out Bible verses.

EMS took the man to Hillcrest Hospital.

OVI: Mayfield Road

At 11:15 p.m. March 17, an officer stopped to assist a driver whose car had run out of gas on Mayfield Road. The officer then discovered that the driver, a Fairview Park man, 50, was intoxicated.

The man was found to have a blood-alcohol content of .213, well above the state minimum for drunk driving of .08. Police arrested the man for OVI.

Suspicious person: Cedar Road

At 8:30 p.m. March 15, the manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods reported seeing a woman stealing clothing by putting the merchandise into a bag she carried.

Officers spoke with the woman, 63, of Willoughby, and learned that she was wanted on a Geauga County Sheriff’s Office warrant.

The sheriff’s office could not pick up the woman. The manager did not want to press charges for theft, so police issued the woman a criminal trespass warning.

Auto theft: Richmond Road

At 7:40 a.m. March 13, a man, 58, who lives at the Colony House Apartments, 1424 Richmond Road, reported that his car had been stolen from the apartment’s lot.

The car, a Kia Sportage, has not been recovered.
