Lady Jackets destroy Brookeland
HUDSON – The Chester Lady Jackets are moving on to the Regional Finals in the 1A State Softball Playoffs after sweeping eighth-ranked Brookeland in their playoff series. Thursday night’s game in Hudson was a nail biter that saw the Lady Jackets win on a walk-off single by Emma Byrd, scoring Lilly Read. Kaylee Toler pitched seven strong innings and got their offense going with a home run in the fourth inning. Brookeland threatened with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, but a fly ball out to Alyssa White ended the inning. The teams traded runs after that until Byrd’s hit in the seventh inning secured the win for the Lady Jackets. Kinsley Barnes had two runs scored, two hits and two RBI’s. The Lady Jackets left little doubt in game two on Friday in Cleveland by racking up 17 hits in a 13-2 series clinching a victory over Brookeland. Every Lady Jacket in the lineup had at least one hit. Kaylee Toler led the offense with four hits. Freshmen Lily Payne and Lauren Citrano each were strong at the plate with three hits apiece. Blakeney Whitworth got the offense started in the sixth inning, and a triple by Marae Pounds and a single by Koree Hilliard pushed across the final run of the inning.

Angelina softball players graduate in special graduation ceremony
LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Graduates on the Angelina softball team who were not able to attend regular commencement this past weekend, because of tournament play, were handed their diplomas in a special graduation ceremony today. As you can see commencement for these athletes were conducted on the softball field with special speakers including Athletic Director JJ Montgomery and of course Lady Roadrunners head softball coach Brette Kohring.
HMS Captures League Tournament Championship
The Huntington Middle School boys’ volleyball team was crowned league champion at the annual 210 League Middle School Tournament at Monrovia High School. The HMS Foxes went 6-0 through the round-robin matches, beating six other teams to take the top overall seed. Then they defeated Temple City’s Oak Avenue Royals in a semifinal match before taking down the South Pasadena Tiger Cubs in the finals to capture the tournament title.
