Lubbock legend and longtime radio host Dave King died Monday afternoon after entering palliative care with Hospice of Lubbock in late May.

According to a social media post from his son, Landon, the communications expert was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer and had other malignant growths throughout his body.

King made his debut in Lubbock with KSEL-TV, which has since become KAMC, before hosting KLBK's morning radio show and later transitioning into the sales department, according to everythinglubbock.com. Throughout his career, he also cohosted KJTV-AM's morning show, KFYO Mornings and Sunrise LBK in partnership with Tom Collins.

He also owned Dave King Advertising.

In addition to the respect he's gained for his career, King also had a soft character known to many. He was president of the Lubbock Monterey AMBUCS and chairman of the inaugural South Plains Honor Flight, which sends veterans on a three-day trip to visit memorials in Washington, D.C. at no expense. He was also on the board of directors for Women's Protective Services.
