1 dead, 1 seriously injured in central Lubbock house fire

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Fire marshals are investigating what started a deadly fire in Central Lubbock Wednesday morning.

Lubbock Fire Rescue says one of three people inside the home near 24th and Ave. T died from their injuries. Another person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Family has identified the man killed in the fire as Michael Dailey. A Give a Hand account has been set up to help family with funeral expenses. Dailey’s sister-in-law says he was a loving person with a great heart. He leaves behind two children.

“To everyone who has donated to Michael’s funeral we are deeply grateful, you have all been such a blessing to our family,” she said. “He will be missed, but never forgotten.”

David Randles escaped the house fire and described the moment he woke up to smoke.

“All I know is somebody said ‘fire, get out!’ So I wake up and look and it was hazy, but there was more smoke outside. Then somebody started screaming for Mike. His dogs were down there with me and his dogs are usually in there with him. They weren’t burnt. I don’t know where his dogs are at now,” Randles said. “I’m hoping one of the neighbors got him but I’m so distraught man I don’t know what to do.”

Four people were displaced, including Randles. He says he was preparing to move out of the home soon and had already begun packing up his belongings. Now, he’s not sure where he will go from here.

“I’ve got some friend that is going to try to help me get somewhere to stay for a little bit,” he said. “Until we figure out what we do here to get our stuff out. I can’t stay here no more.”
