LOWELL, Mass. — Flames tore a hole through the roof of one Lowell residence Tuesday afternoon.
Crews responded to the area of Jennifer Road around 4:00 p.m. for a report of heavy fire showing a dwelling there, called in by a neighbor. The fire started in the rear of the house, according to the Lowell Fire Department, but spread rapidly.
On arrival, heavy flames were shooting through the roof of the home, leaving a giant hole in its place.
There were no reports of any injuries, but the home is considered a total loss. Two people were displaced and are staying with relatives.
Officials say a cat was in the house at the time of the fire, but the animal got out okay.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
