  • In honor of Women's History Month, we've highlighted women-owned restaurants and food businesses.

It’s Women’s History Month, and to honor the women of our community, we’re spotlighting some women-owned restaurants and food businesses in Stark County. While it’s not a complete list, it’s a good place to start this month and beyond.

Our list includes a long-standing coffee shop, healthy restaurant and bulk food store to a bakery/cafe combo and other popular spots throughout the county.

Sprinkle City Bakery & Cafe

Started as a bakery in the tiny shop next to Pav’s Creamery, Sprinkle City moved in April 2022 to its current location at 1430 W. Maple St. in North Canton. The move allowed the bakery to expand to offer a lunch menu, along with cases full of yummy baked goods. Sprinkle City Bakery:Sprinkle City Bakery expands in North Canton with goldmine of treats

Tana Walther Fisher operates Walther's Twin Tavern in North Canton with her sister Terra Walther. The duo grew up helping out their parents at the former Walther's Cafe in Canton.

Walther’s Twin Tavern

Opened in 2017, Walther’s Twin Tavern is a family affair. The restaurant, at 430 Applegrove St. NW in North Canton, is owned by Terra Walther, Tana Walther-Fisher and parents, Jan and Sharon Walther. In a 2022 interview, Terra Walther said, “It’s definitely like it’s a second family. We have our original family, and it’s already pretty close, and we have several people from (the former Walther’s Cafe) in Canton who are at (Walther’s Twin Tavern), and they’re not just employees; they’re part of our life.” Walther’s most popular dishes include fried catfish, biscuits and gravy and German home fries. Yoder’s Bulk Foods & Deli

Co-owned by mother and daughter duo Diana and Rachel Coblentz, Yoder’s Bulk Foods & Deli will celebrate its sixth anniversary next month. The shop, at 8600 Cleveland Ave. NW in Lake Township, offers fresh deli items, a variety of jarred goods such as jams and pickles, baked goods and breads, everyday staples such as eggs and sour cream, nuts, spices and candy. BAM! Healthy Cuisine

In 2005, co-owners Ashley Fockler and Michael Roberts started BAM! Healthy Cuisine to fill a gap in their own dining needs. Almost two decades later, the restaurant has two locations and lots of healthy options. Choose from salads, wraps, sandwiches, pizzas, bowls, shakes and healthy sides at either the 2185 E. Minerva Perk

Minerva Perk, a “Friends”-themed coffee shop at 100 W. High St. in Paris Township, opened in December 2021. Owners Amanda Pace and Tiffany Sinay serve drip coffee, espresso, lattes, cold brew, frappes, tea, hot chocolate and pastries while episodes of “Friends” play. The shop has board games, cards, books and a guitar available for customers, plus T-shirts, mugs, travel mugs and packaged ground coffee for sale. Find Minerva Perk on Facebook for more information.

Carpe Diem Coffee Shop

Opened in late 2003, Carpe Diem Coffee Shop is a staple in downtown Canton, as is owner and operator Cathy Wyatt, who co-owns the restaurant with husband, Pat. The menu offers espressos, Americanos, cappuccinos and lattes, drip coffee, cold brew and iced coffee, as well as teas, hot chocolate and smoothies, plus specialty cocktails and a small menu of breakfast food and treats.
