More than three years after it began, Los Angeles County’s local emergency declaration due to Covid-19 was lifted at the end of the final day of March

In a statement posted to Twitter, County officials noted that at 1,122 days, this was the longest state of emergency in L.A. County history. In the last three years, approximately 36,000 people have died in Los Angeles County due to Covid-19, according to County officials.

“I offer my heartfelt condolences and wishes of peace and healing to anyone who has lost a loved one to COVID-19,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, Ph.D., M.P.H., M.Ed., Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. “With no new strains proliferating, I am optimistic we will remain in the Low Community Level this spring and my hope is that our hospitalization and death rates continue to decline. I would love to see our lowest-ever numbers since the pandemic started – that has not happened yet and in order for it to happen, we will have to take advantage of all the tools and resources that helped us get to where we are today and to be aware of how our actions affect those in our community who are most vulnerable to severe illness.”

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) plans to continue to offer free Covid-19 vaccines, tests and treatment for anyone who needs it, officials stated.

Masks

While masks are no longer required in most public spaces, healthcare worker vaccination and masking requirements will continue until the end of Sept. 30, 2023, according to LADPH officials.

Masks remain required for all staff providing patient care or working in patient care, but are optional for patients and visitors.

Restaraunts

The emergency order allowing restaurants to create outdoor seating on public walkways and parking lots has also ended, though restaurants with an existing outdoor dining permit may continue to operate.

Rent and Evictions

Some protections provided by L.A. COunty’s Covid-19Tenate Protections Resolutions (formerly the L.A. County Eviction Moratorium) expired on Mar. 31, 2023.
