A cannabis company teamed up with a community organization on Thursday to host an expungement and re-entry resource fair in Lincoln Heights.

“I’ve been given second and third and fourth chances at growing up, and this is like a door-opener for just a new life for some people,” said Fabian Alomar with Stiiizy, which co-hosted the fair with Healing Urban Barrios .

Alomar had his own record expunged six months ago. The event provided resources to help people clear their records and get back on their feet, including housing and family reunification services.

“We need to get those that are coming back into society housed, functional, and empowered to better their lives, because when they’re homeless, then becomes despair, then becomes a lot of other ugly feelings, and the healing process does not occur,” said Christina Navarro, one of the event’s organizers.

She says when the barriers are lifted, people feel empowered and want to do more to help themselves.
