Aaron Hicks’ resurgence following his tenure with the Yankees came to an abrupt halt as the Angels parted ways with the struggling outfielder.

Hicks’ no-care attitude toward Yankees fans boos last season comes back to haunt him

The irony is that it was almost a year after Aaron Hicks left the Bronx to join Los Angeles that the news of his departure from the Californian capital emerged, surprising many. Some fans took to Twitter, once called x.com, to make ironic remarks about the fact that Hicks is currently a free agent.

It’s interesting to note that during the last year, Hicks donned the Orioles jersey, the same team that was about to play against the Yankees at 6:30 EST on that Tuesday night. Some of the Yankees faithful booed the former Bronx Bomber player, and he made some spicy comments against the pinstripes, saying, “I mean, it’s kind of just what I expected,” Hicks told The New York Post. “I grinded for eight years with the team.”

“Had some great moments over there. And kinda how things were going this year and come back and kinda get booed again, kinda just what I expected.” He added: “They’re normally pretty tough on visiting players, I’m not really worried about that too much. I’m just here to pretty much go about my day and try to do everything possible to help my team win.”

At 34 years old, Hicks found himself designated for assignment by the Los Angeles team after a dismal .140 batting average across 18 games. With just 8 hits in 57 at-bats, including a single hit in his last 19 attempts, his performance fell far short of expectations.

Manager Ron Washington explained the decision, citing the need for change despite acknowledging Hicks’ contributions during his time with the team. This move was made apparent before the Angels secured a 6-5 victory against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.

Hicks’ departure from the Angels marks another chapter in his recent career trajectory. Following his release from the Yankees in May 2023, where he struggled with a .188 batting average and a .524 OPS in 28 games, Hicks encountered a brief resurgence with the Orioles. During his stint with Baltimore, he showcased improved performance, boasting a .275 batting average along with seven home runs and 31 RBIs over 65 games, aiding in the team’s success in clinching the AL East.

However, his struggles resurfaced upon joining the Angels in 2024 on a one-year deal inked in late January. Despite starting in only two of the last six games as Jo Adell assumed the role of the starting right fielder, Hicks failed to regain his stride.

In response to Hicks’ departure, the Angels called up Cole Tucker to fill the vacated spot on the roster. Tucker made an immediate impact, contributing a key single that drove in the tying run during his Angels debut on Monday, where the team snapped a five-game losing streak.

Manager Washington emphasized that while the team isn’t sending a specific message with this decision, players must deliver on performance expectations to maintain their place on the roster. This sentiment underscores the competitive nature of professional baseball, as performance ultimately dictates player retention.

As Washington, celebrating his 72nd birthday on the same day, navigates his inaugural season leading the Angels, strategic decisions like this serve as markers of the team’s commitment to success and adaptability in a demanding league.

  1. Giving Aaron Hicks a long-term deal after only about a season & a few months of productive play, was yet another one of Brainless Brian Cashman’s indefensible moves as a GM.

If you weren’t aware of it, before the Twins unloaded Hicks on dimwit Cashman, Hicks “hit” .192, .215, and .256 in his 3 years in Minnesota, and he missed innumerable games because of injuries, playing in 67, 81 & 97 games over those 3 years.

And yet this is the man to whom The Boy Disingenuous, Brian Cashman, gave a seven-year, $70 million contract.

I anxiously await the day that I hear Brian Cashman’s voice come out of a Clown’s Face (that matches his acumen as a GM) & asks, “Would you like to super size that?”
