2 Vehicles Involved in Fatal Pedestrian Traffic Collision in Arleta

ARLETA, LOS ANGELES, Apr. 25 (KNN) — A pedestrian was struck and killed in a collision involving two vehicles at an off-ramp of the 5 Freeway Wednesday evening in Arleta.

The California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision around 8:46 p.m. on the 5 Freeway off-ramp at Osborne Street.

Arriving first responders located a pedestrian down, deceased at the scene, and two vehicles with collision damage.

Crash debris was observed in the roadway along with a grocery cart and what appeared to be personal items and clothing.

The deceased individual was possibly unhoused, said a CHP officer at the scene.

CHP PIO Isabel Diaz confirmed to Key News Network that the incident was a two-vehicle versus pedestrian fatal crash.

According to the news release of the incident Thursday from the CHP, a 50-year-old female driver of a 2012 Toyota Prius with a teen passenger, was traveling southbound on the I-5 to Osborne Street off-ramp. The 67-year-old female driver of a 2018 Hyundai Tucson was traveling westbound on Osborne Street when the Toyota ran off the roadway, out of control, and struck a 40-year-old female pedestrian on the sidewalk. The Toyota continued southbound out of control, into the intersection and was struck by the the Hyundai. As a result, the pedestrian sustained fatal injuries.

The two occupants of the Toyota sustained minor injuries, and the driver of the Hyundai did not appear to be injured according to the news release. The Osborne southbound ramp was closed for the investigation.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
