Dakoda Fields reminds other Western programs that USC is still prominent

USC is building its 2024 recruiting class. The latest addition is 2024 Gardena (Calif.) Serra cornerback Dakoda Fields, who committed to the USC Trojans early in this recruiting cycle. He announced his decision Monday after his official visit in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Fields, who is listed at 6 foot 1 and 175 pounds, comes in this season ranked as a four-star overall recruit. The defensive back is also rated as the No. 78 player nationally, per the 247Sports.com composite. He’s the No. 10-rated cornerback.

Fields talked about his relationship with the Trojans program:

“Donte Williams is my guy, one of the coaches I’m closest with and he’s very easy for me to talk with. He’s someone I know who cares about me as a person and a player and we’ll always be close no matter where I go. I like the move to the Big Ten too and I know they’re excited about it as well.”

Fields choose the USC Trojans over: Oregon, Cal, Miami, Ohio State, Texas and Washington.

The fact that so many Western programs were in the mix for Fields is a reminder that while USC is leaving for the Big Ten, it still intends to win the West on the recruiting trail.
