LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Authorities Friday identified a tow truck driver who was struck by a car and killed while he was tending to a disabled vehicle on the Golden State (5) Freeway near Griffith Park.

Paramedics were sent to the southbound 5 Freeway near Zoo Drive about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Presiliano Chavez, 41, of Sun Valley died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office and the California Highway Patrol.

According to the CHP, Chavez was struck by a 2012 Nissan Versa while he was assisting the driver of a vehicle that had become disabled.

"As (Chavez) was attempting to load up the disabled vehicle on the tow truck, (he) was struck by a passing vehicle," a CHP statement said.

The driver of the Nissan, 33-year-old Rachel Fewings of Los Angeles, remained at the scene, and she was not arrested, the CHP reported.

"Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the crash," the CHP said.

Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact CHP Officer R. Mayer at 626-296-8100, or the CHP Los Angeles Communication Center at 323-259-3200.
