USC baseball relevance about to be affirmed, elevated Monday morning

Here we go. USC baseball is preparing for a very big Memorial Day. This Monday morning, the 2023 NCAA Baseball Tournament field will be revealed. USC expects to hear its name called and see its place in a four-team regional.

The selection show airs at noon Eastern time, 9 a.m. Pacific, on ESPN2.

USC — as of Saturday — was in the field, and a few spots inside the cut line. The Trojans were not one of the last four projected teams in. However, since those Saturday morning projections, a few teams have claimed automatic bids and reduced the size of the bubble. One such team is Tulane, an 18-40 team which won the AAC Tournament. That will knock one bubble team out of the tournament. However, the Pac-12 teams most centrally on the bubble are Arizona and Arizona State. Those two teams are in a much more precarious position than USC. The Trojans still seem to be safe, from what we gather. Our reading of other national college baseball analysts and bracketologists points to very little concern about the Trojans’ bubble status.

If USC does make the field, the Trojans would be in the NCAA Baseball Tournament for the first time since 2015. This hopeful period of USC athletics continues.

Monday morning is expected to be a time of celebration for first-year coach Andy Stankiewicz and his team.
