WGA members, come on down!

Some do-good celebrities have been in the news this week for showing support for WGA writers on strike. Weezer and Imagine Dragons played acoustic songs on the picket line, Padma Lakshmi handed out sandwiches at Universal’s picket lines and Pete Davidson showed up in Brooklyn with pizzas for members of WGA East. Now comedian and host of The Price is Right Drew Carey is offering to buy lunch and dinner for card-carrying WGA members at two Los Angeles restaurants: the Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank and Swingers Diner

Carey made the announcement on Twitter, which reads: “Ateention #WGA Folks! Show your WGA card at Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank or Swingers Diner on Beverly (near Fairfax) and your meal is free. For the duration of the strike. Dine-in only, Tip included.”

Writers have already taken advantage of Carey’s generosity. Stephanie Wilson, the owner of Swingers Diner, told ABC7 that more than 80 WGA members have dined at the establishment since the tweet, and Carey’s tab is upwards of $10,000 at the moment.

“The amount of people that have come in to take advantage of the offer has been awesome,” Wilson said. “Pretty overwhelming. People are really touched and moved that Drew Carey would go to such an extreme to take care of artists. It’s really wonderful.”

And this isn’t the first time that Carey has shown his support for writers. When the WGA was striking in 2008, Carey offered to pay for members’ meals at the same Bob’s Big Boy on Riverside Drive. We love it when celebrities do good, and it makes Carey that much more of a star in our eyes.
