The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call of a structure fire around 11:46 a.m., Mar. 23, on the 7700 block of North Lankershim Boulevard in the Sun Valley neighborhood of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley region.

According to LAFD, firefighters found a four-story, garden-style apartment building over a parking area, with heavy smoke showing when they first arrived. Flames were observed out the 2nd floor window and reaching up to the 3rd floor.

Firefighter/paramedics worked to locate any potential victims.

The fire was attacked from inside the building on both floors and firefighters primarily held the blaze to the unit where it started, reported LAFD. The extent of damage to the unit above is being determined.

LAFD said two patients were transported with serious burn injuries. Firefighters conducted a thorough search of the units involved and the rest of the floors impacted by smoke to determine if any other occupants required medical attention.

LAFD reported that over 80 firefighters extinguished the fire in 33 minutes. LAFD Arson responded to the scene to conduct a fire investigation which is protocol for burn injuries.
