In what might prove to be the best matchup of the 2023 NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16, the Gonzaga Bulldogs will take on the UCLA Bruins in Las Vegas.
This isn't the first time the Bulldogs and Bruins will battle each other in this setting, as Gonzaga knocked out UCLA in 2021 with a buzzer-beating three from half court by Jalen Suggs to send the Zags to the national championship.
Just a few years later, there are a few holdovers from that game on each side. Notably, Tyger Campbell and Jaime Jaquez Jr. will lead coach Mick Cronin's Bruins into battle, while Mark Few still has Drew Timme on his squad.
Timme made headlines after Gonzaga's win over TCU on Sunday night for his postgame comments about some of the Horned Frogs fans and for a nonchalant F-bomb during his on-court interview.
On the court, though, both teams are fairly evenly matched. Gonzaga brings in the nation's best offense, while UCLA might have the best defense -- although injuries have been a problem at times. However it's not often in the world of college basketball that many of the same key players remain two years later, but that's what we have here. Expect a close, potentially epic battle between two of the nation's best teams.
