School and food programs announced for students impacted by LAUSD strike

LOS ANGELES (KNX) –As Los Angeles Unified School District kicks off a three-day strike Tuesday, the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks announced food distribution locations and after school programs being offered for impacted students.

Grab & Go meals will be provided at the following locations:

·        Mason Recreation Center

·         Tarzana Recreation Center

·         Granada Hills Recreation Center

·         Sylmar Recreation Center

·         Sepulveda Recreation Center

·         Ritchie Valens RC

·        Hubert H. Humphrey Memorial Recreation Center

·         Sunland Recreation Center

·         Pan Pacific Park

·         Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Recreation Center

·         Glassell Park Recreation Center Complex

·         Baldwin Hills Recreation Center

·         The Boys & Girls Club Mar Vista Gardens Branch

·         El Sereno Recreation Center

·         Lincoln Park Recreation Center

·         Evergreen Recreation Center

·         South Park Recreation Center

·         Harvard Recreation Center

·         St Andrews Recreation Center

·         Salt Lake Park

·         South Gate Park

·         Harbor City Recreation Center

·         Wilmington Recreation Center

·         Peck Park Community Center

The food will be available on Tuesday from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Six meals will be provided per student, covering breakfast and lunch for three days.

In addition to food services, the department will also offer a free Special Edition After School Club Program for elementary school students in 1st through 5th grades. The programs will take place beginning Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Registration will be available online on Monday at 1 p.m. as slots are available on a first come, first served basis.

Also, the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation announced it will extend the hours of its Every Body Plays program at 16 select parks from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Kids ages 7 to 17 can participate in activities such as games, arts and crafts and sports. Free grab-n-go meals will also be provided.

The Dana Friendship Park and and Nature Center in San Pedro and the Stoneview Nature Center in Culver City are also offering services to students.

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County in Exposition Park and La Brea Tar Pits in Hancock Park are also offering free general admission to LAUSD students and chaperones. The tickets will be available at the museum's ticket counters.
