Mada McCabe grew up loving sports. Each one that she felt she had a chance to compete in, she did it despite her disabilities. Now, at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, she competes in women’s basketball in a wheelchair. This is part of a journey that started with one glance in a different direction at the gym.

• Highland Springs is set to face Freedom (Woodbridge) in the Class 6 championship game at the University of Virginia's Scott Stadium. Freedom has had a strong season, winning 28 consecutive games and averaging nearly 60 points per game.

The Marshall Statesmen, with one individual champion, placed sixth and the McLean Highlanders eighth at the recent NOVA Classic wrestling competition at Fairfax High School. Marshall’s champion was Ben Levy at 120 pounds. He was 5-0 with four pins, the first three in the first period and the other early in the second in the semifinals. He won by major decision, 13-5, in the championship match.
