May 24 is National Poppy Day
Honor the fallen and support the living on National Poppy Day, by wearing the flower in remembrance of those who have served. The American Legion recently received a proclamation from Bardstown Mayor Dick Heaton declaring Friday, May 24, National Poppy Day in the city. Bette Gies, Public Relations Chair for the state of Kentucky, said the American Legion Auxiliary leads efforts each year to distribute poppies in their local communities with the request that those receiving the flower donate to support the future of veterans.

Church news for May 15
May 12: Attendance was 56. Ronald de Robles conducted the Sacrament Service. Charlotte Adamson gave the invocation. Music was under the direction of Heidi Burgess and Elise Brown. The Sacrament was administered by Lucas Foley, Bryce Howard, Zachary de Robles, Ethan Pierce, Kellen Hill, and Mike Sumner. Those who spoke were Zachary de Robles who spoke on “A Mother’s Love Is The Closest Thing To The Love Of The Savior,” Nathaniel de Robles, “What Is Special About God’s Love For Us,” Raymond Burgess, “Jesus Christ Loved His Mother,” and Ronald de Robles, “The Role Of Mothers In Heavenly Father’s Plan” Lane Adamson gave the benediction. The Sunday Lesson Theme was “In The Strength Of The Lord” This week’s spiritual thought is “When mothers know who they are and who God is and have made covenants with Him, they will have great power and influence for good on their children. McKinneys put photography on display at library
Campbellsville photographers Stan and Joan Cottongim McKinney have a photography exhibit on display this month at the Taylor County Public Library in Campbellsville. The library has a rotating artistic exhibit each month that is open to the public at no charge.
Marion County walks off in Yellowjacket throwback
Despite being rained out for most of the week, the Marion County Knights still had the opportunity to defend a bit of their history last weekend. Dressing up as the Lebanon High School Yellowjackets, the team came away with a hard-earned win in a grudge match against the Washington County Commanders, leaving the field having fought their way back to claim a 12-11 in the bottom of the seventh.

GREENSBURG — In what proved to be their final track meet of the region season, on May 3 Marion County competed in the Carl Deaton Classic, with the boys finishing 13th (with 8 points) out of the 13 participating teams, while the girls’ program finished fifth (with 62), just one point behind Taylor County in fourth place and four behind LaRue County in third.
Early voting for primary begins Thursday
Voters wanting to cast a ballot for Tuesday’s primary election can take advantage of three days of early voting. County Clerk Mark Carney said voting will be available at the Campbellsville Fire and Rescue building at 100 West Broadway beginning Thursday and continuing through Saturday. The poll there will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
