Rumors have been swirling on social media that a student in Tangipahoa Parish impregnated a teacher in Loranger.
"I would never have thought that we would have a teacher get pregnant by a student around here," one person posted on a community page. "Can't believe it. Especially being at Loranger."
WWL First News asked the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office if authorities could confirm the online claims.
"We received this complaint on Sunday evening, and our detectives have been investigating this ever since," Lt. Ethan Dunn replied. "No arrest had been made as of yet, as this type of investigation is time consuming and still active."
Louisiana law bans sexual relations between students and teachers regardless of the age of the student. If a child is not of the legal age of consent, the law considers a sexual relationship with an adult as a rape. The age of consent in Louisiana is 17.
Dunn could not share the ages of the individuals involved in the complaint.
"We are not able to release any further information until the investigation is complete."
