The Lorain Fraternal Order of Police Associates Lodge No. 46, held their second annual Pancake brunch event on March 25 at SS Cyril and Methodius Church, 3056 Reeves Ave., in Lorain.

Bringing together many people from throughout Lorain county, the brunch was determined a success by the FOP, thanks to their “all you can eat” pancakes, eggs, sausage and coffee.

According to Jim Malick, president of the FOPA, “A couple of members got together last year and suggested we do something for the kids. It was around Easter and so we had breakfast with the bunny.”

The event was so successful that Malick and his team quickly set to work planning for the next year, this time anticipating hundreds.

“We have made about 600 pancakes for this event,” said Joel Arredono, president of the council.

In addition to the delicious breakfast, created by volunteers including Cynthia Theodoropoulos, guests also could take their shots at a 50/50 raffle and baskets.

“We have sold about 200 tickets and at halfway through we have already served 100 people so it has been awesome,” said Malick.

As a special treat for the younger guests in attendance, the beloved Easter Bunny made an appearance for photos during a meet and greet. Mayor Jack Bradley also came to show his support in addition to being a member of the FOPA.

“Because it is election time, we get a lot more people who come out and it has been an amazing response,” said the mayor. “This is a fantastic program geared to giving back to our community and our law enforcement.”

All of the funds raised from the event go back towards the FOPA to help provide for the Lorain Police. A main focus of the funds will go on to the Cops and Kids program. An additional event with the FOPA will come September 23 in partnership with Matus Winery. More details will be announced as the event nears.
