Man Fatally Shot at Beaver Lake Campground in Nicholas County, Suspect in Custody

NICHOLAS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A tragic shooting occurred Wednesday evening at Beaver Lake Campground in Calvin, West Virginia, leaving a 69-year-old man dead. Nicholas County 911 received a call at approximately 7:19 p.m. reporting the incident.

The victim, identified as Joseph Tanner of Summersville, WV, was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound when authorities arrived. Witnesses reported that the suspect, 59-year-old Cliff Salisbury of Mount Nebo, WV, was seen walking around the campground with a rifle.

Nicholas County Deputies and West Virginia State Troopers responded to the scene. Salisbury was located and arrested without incident. The West Virginia State Police Crime Scene team processed the scene, and Tanner was pronounced dead at the location.

The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities work to determine the motive behind the shooting.
