HEDGESVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in West Virginia late Thursday night.

An EF-0 tornado touched down briefly in Hedgesville late on Thursday, August 8, 2024, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sterling, Virginia, has confirmed.

The tornado, with estimated peak winds of 80 mph, carved a path of destruction approximately 0.3 miles long and 150 yards wide.

The tornado struck at 11:50 PM EDT, starting near the intersection of Wampum Lane and Lodge Road, where a large tree was uprooted and several branches were snapped.

The tornado moved northeast, causing most of the damage along Brumbaugh Lane at 11:51 PM EDT, where several trees were uprooted, a few were snapped midway, and numerous large branches littered the area.

The chaotic pattern of the damage suggests the erratic nature of the winds.

The storm survey was conducted by the Berkeley County Office of Emergency Management in conjunction with the NWS Baltimore/Washington Forecast Office.

Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
