Governor Justice breaks ground on outdoor exhibit dedicated to West Virginia’s natural resources and history

CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Jim Justice was joined by several leaders in the natural resources industry on Wednesday for breaking of ground on a new West Virginia State Capitol Complex outdoor exhibit.

Introduced as part of the “ America 250 WV ” legacy project, “West Virginia: Nature Designs a State that Fuels a Nation” will provide further support in the project’s mission of highlighting of eleven industries, as well as the natural resources with which the Mountain State has established itself as a global leader.

“This exhibit will not only celebrate our state’s incredible history but also educate and inspire future generations about the vital role West Virginia has played in fueling our nation and world,” said Governor Justice of the newly unveiled exhibit.

“From the coal that powers our homes and creates steel to the natural gas driving today’s energy innovations, West Virginia’s abundant natural resources have been the backbone of progress and innovation. This exhibit will showcase how our rich land and hardworking people have contributed to national and global advancements, ensuring that West Viginia will continue to power the world with pride for generations to come.”

Featured as part of the exhibit will be clay, oil and gas, steel and iron, chemicals, salt, timber, agriculture, water, railroads, glass, and of course, coal. Showcased by way of these featured elements are the expansive history and contributions brought to the world by the industries of the Mountain State.

A Fireless Steam Locomotive, Block of Coal, Salt Pot, Coal Shuttle Car, South Penn Half Breed Engine, Farming Plows, Oil and Gas Engine, artistic pieces from the clay and glass industries, a roll of steel from Nucor Steel Company, Riverboat Pilot Wheel, and more will be among larger artifacts featured as part of the exhibit.

As an extension of the West Virginia State Museum, the outdoor exhibit seeks to offer a tangible connection to the rich industrial heritage of the State of West Virginia.
