Boulder County evictions outpacing 2022

After over 1,300 filings last year, 2023 could see even more evictions

Evictions in Boulder County look like they might surpass the number of evictions filed last year.

According to state reporting, 648 eviction filings have been filed in Boulder County’s district so far, including 83 at the Longmont court. There were 1,315 eviction filings in Boulder County last year, including 555 through the first five months of 2022.

In May this year, 100 evictions were filed, up five from May 2022. At the Longmont court, 17 evictions were filed in May compared to 12 in the same month last year.

January of this year saw the highest number of evictions at the Longmont court since data started being reported in January 2020 with 27 filings. Countywide, March of this year was the highest number of filed evictions at 169.

Evictions in 2022 for Boulder County more than doubled from 2021, and 2023 looks like it may outpace last year for the total number of evictions. Statewide, evictions are up 27% this year — from 14,053 for Jan. 1-Jun 5, 2022 to 17,842 for the same period this year.

Longmont offers mediation for landlords and tenants at any point throughout the eviction process, which is usually more efficient and less expensive than litigation. The city also has a list of resources available to people struggling to pay rent.
