A 7-Eleven employee, at the 2250 Mountain View Ave. location, noticed the anti-tamper stickers on two pumps had been disrupted on Sunday.

The employee called the Longmont Police Department which discovered the stickers on pumps 5 and 6 had been tampered with, according to the police report. The access doors for both pumps had been opened and a credit card skimmer was found on pump 5, according to Longmont Public Safety Communications and Marketing Manager Robin Ericson. The credit card skimmer was removed.

Skimmers are illegally installed devices that capture data from cardholders. The collected data is used to create fake debit or credit cards, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s website.

Longmont PD is unsure how long the skimmer was attached to the pump, Ericson said. Recent 7-Eleven customers are advised to check their bank statements for unusual activity Longmont Public Safety said in a Facebook post.

Video surveillance was retrieved and the situation is under investigation, Ericson said.
