A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized Saturday night after he was struck by gunfire when an altercation broke out among four men outside of a business near Shoreline Drive in Downtown Long Beach, authorities said.

At 8:37 p.m., officers arriving at the 400 block of E. Shoreline Drive found a large crowd of teenagers had dispersed after gunshots erupted in the area, one of which hit the 16-year-old, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The teenager suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower body and was taken to a hospital by the Long Beach Fire Department.

The boy told officials that he was walking outside of a business near the 400 block of E. Shoreline Drive when when he saw four men in a physical altercation. As he walked farther away from the situation, he was struck by a bullet shortly after hearing gunshots.

The teenager was in stable condition on Sunday morning, LBPD spokesperson Richard Mejia told the Post.

Mejia said that as of Sunday, officers had not located any suspects or determined a motive. It is unclear whether the teen was struck by a stray bullet or if he was a target, he said.

Mejia said officers do not believe the incident was connected to a Lana Del Rey pop-up that had drawn crowds in Shoreline Aquatic Park nearby.

Instead, police suspect the shooting may have involved people interested in attending a different event in the area, Mejia said.

According to Mejia, it was advertised on social media as an LA-based influencer event, and prospective attendees may have been directed to meet up in the Shoreline area to board a boat that was docking nearby, where the festivities would take place.

As of Sunday morning, Mejia did not have further details on the event, but he said police suspect hundreds of people did not make it onto the boat, which led to the large crowd forming on Shoreline.
