RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – The Logan County Fiscal Court has decided the Logan County Humane Society will no longer operate the county’s animal control service.

The decision to create two separate organizations and allow the county to operate animal control was made at Tuesday’s fiscal court meeting.

In a post on Facebook, the humane society says they received a letter from the county attorney on May 8 but no other information about the letter was given, including what prompted this decision.

However, the court has agreed to allow the humane society to continue to operate out of the same building as animal control until at least July 1.

The humane society says it does not intended to shut down and will continue to release updates as they are available. Services still offered at this time include intake of strays and animal control officer pickups, rescuers say.

This is a developing story.
