NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Storm Prediction Center has issued an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) for strong to severe storms from roughly I-65 westward, a Slight Risk (level 2/5) from I-65 to the Cumberland Plateau, and a Marginal Risk (Cat 1/5) from the Plateau eastward.
The main concern will come from gusty winds and heavy rain. The tornado and hail threats may be low, but are not zero. This will mainly be an overnight event, so have a way to get watches and warnings.
Flooding is a concern especially in Southern KY where there is a Flood Watch until 1 am Saturday for Trigg, Christian, Todd, and Muhlenberg Counties. Up to 2 inches of rain is not our of the question.
Timing:
Friday morning will be mild with only a few scattered showers from I-40 northward with a strong southerly wind warming us into the upper 70s nearing 80 by afternoon. As the main line will be out west, a few storms are possible in Southern Kentucky through mid-afternoon.
Storms will move east and become more widespread reaching the Tennessee River by roughly 9 pm (please give or take 1-2 hours when timing out in advance), around 11 pm to midnight in the Nashville area and the I-65 corridor, and 1-3 am in our eastern counties. Notice in the graphics below some additional storms developing behind the leading storms that could lead to some localized flooding.
