Magnolia West High School assistant tennis coach Tatiana Ruhl grew up loving tennis. She was a district champ in high school and played collegiate tennis at Prairie View A&M.

Three years ago she was introduced by a friend to her new passion. Tatiana never saw it coming, "Pickleball was a funny word to me when I first heard it, I didn't know it was a sport or there was a pro circuit attached to it."

Tatiana started playing just about everyday at parks and courts. She made new friends and started to learn the game but she knew she wanted more. "In the summer of 2021 I thought I wanted to learn pickleball properly. I got online and found this guy you may have heard of him Ben Johns, he had a camp in Colorado. Who doesn't want to learn from the game's number one player."

Ruhl learned quickly and Johns saw potential telling Tatiana she could go pro if she wanted to, Tatiana was shocked. She started entering tournaments and started winning.

Tatiana's confidence was growing, "I think the competitor side of me is different on the court than off of it. I like to be very intense and very focused."

Tatiana now travels the country playing tournaments just about every weekend. She spreads her love of pickleball with kids and adult clinics.

Tatiana has a message for anyone interested in the fast growing sport. "Anyone thinking about trying pickleball or you're on the fence or if you're one of those tennis players thinking it's not for me, you're missing out. I promise you won't have any regrets."

This Strawberry Dessert Was Made to Steal the Whole Table

Some desserts sit politely in the corner, but a Southern strawberry punch bowl cake is designed to command the center of the table. Layers of tender cake, juicy strawberries, and cool creamy filling build against the sides of a clear bowl, showing off every color and texture before anyone takes the first serving. The berries bring freshness, the cream makes each spoonful soft and luxurious, and the cake absorbs enough of the surrounding flavor to become even better as it chills. Instead of precise slices, this dessert offers generous scoops where the layers mingle together, making every bowlful slightly different. It feels festive without becoming formal and nostalgic without looking dated. Once the serving spoon reaches the bottom and lifts all those layers at once, people understand why punch bowl cakes have remained such beloved gathering desserts.

Remember the White Candy That Seemed to Appear in Every Grandma’s Christmas Tin?

Divinity is one of those old-fashioned candies that can instantly bring back a kitchen you haven’t stood in for years. Light, fluffy, and almost cloud-like, it’s nothing like dense fudge or chewy caramel. The outside sets with a delicate finish while the center stays soft and airy, with that unmistakable melt-away sweetness that made it a holiday candy-table favorite. It looks deceptively simple, but anyone who grew up watching a grandmother, aunt, or church-supper expert make a batch probably remembers there was a little technique involved. When it turns out right, those snowy spoonfuls look beautiful piled onto a platter—and somehow taste even better after you’ve spent years wondering why people stopped making them.

Mama’s Goulash Tastes Like the Dinner Everyone Remembers

Mama’s Goulash combines elbow macaroni, seasoned ground beef, tomatoes, onions, bell pepper, and cheese into a saucy one-pan dinner that feels immediately familiar. The macaroni cooks until tender and catches the tomato-rich sauce inside every curve, while the beef makes the meal hearty enough to satisfy a crowded table. Onion and pepper soften into the background, contributing sweetness and savory flavor without distracting from the combination people expect. Cheese melts through the pasta and gives the sauce a comforting richness that plain beef and tomatoes cannot provide. This is American family-style goulash rather than a formal European stew, and its appeal comes from affordability, generosity, and the ability to turn basic pantry ingredients into a pot that smells like somebody’s childhood kitchen.

The Soup I Make When a Light Little Bowl Isn’t Going to Count as Dinner

Some soups leave you looking for a sandwich ten minutes later. This creamy sausage soup isn’t interested in being one of them. Savory sausage gives the whole pot a rich, smoky backbone while a velvety broth turns it into the kind of spoon-coating comfort food that feels substantial from the first bowl. Everything comes together in one pot, letting those browned sausage bits and seasonings work their way through the creamy base instead of disappearing down the drain with another dirty pan. Serve it bubbling hot with crusty bread and you’ve got exactly what a cold, tired evening calls for: something creamy, hearty, and satisfying enough that nobody asks what else is for dinner.

7 Christmas Candies Mothers Made at the Kitchen Table

I use AI to help draft these articles. Every recipe and every fact in them is checked before publishing. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas from the 1950s into the 1980s, the kitchen in plenty of American homes shifted into a different gear. Cookies went first, then candy, and candy was a different kind of work. It called for a thermometer, the heaviest pot you owned, a marble slab or a sheet of buttered foil, and real attention. Women swapped these recipes on index cards at the church bazaar or through the small spiral-bound cookbooks their church and club auxiliaries printed and sold. When the candy was done it went into a tin on wax paper, stacked in layers by type, and passed along to neighbors or kept on the counter through the holiday.

This Strawberry Dessert Never Goes Near the Oven

Strawberry Delight earns its name by turning a few familiar ingredients into a creamy dessert that looks far more involved than it really is. A ready-made graham cracker crust supports a light cream cheese filling, while a glossy layer of fresh strawberries adds bright color and juicy fruit flavor. The combination gives you buttery crumbs, smooth filling, and fresh berries in every forkful without asking you to bake cake layers or manage a complicated cheesecake. Because the dessert is chilled, it tastes especially refreshing when the weather is warm and a heavy baked dessert feels unnecessary. The strawberries remain the visual star, but the tang from the cream cheese keeps their sweetness balanced and makes the finished dessert taste richer than an ordinary fruit pie.
