Before Ken and Rachel Jones ever opened the doors, they lived entirely different lives. Ken spent three decades as a United States Naval Officer, working in intelligence and traveling the world. He saw cultures up close, tasted dishes cooked in homes and street stalls and military bases, and learned how food can carry history and identity across borders. Rachel built her career as an elementary school teacher, pouring patience, heart, and consistency into children every day — skills that now form the backbone of the warmth guests feel the moment they step into McGarity’s.

They didn’t come from the restaurant industry. Not one bit. But they came with leadership, resilience, curiosity, and empathy — and it shows in every corner of the pub they built together. What started as a dream discussed over glasses of wine soon grew into something bigger than either of them expected. “We believed that with hard work and a clear vision, we could create something special,” Ken said — and that belief, backed by grit, became the foundation of McGarity’s.

Over the years, Ken and Rachel have paid utility bills for families on the brink of losing service. They have bought groceries for people who needed help and asked for nothing in return. They have purchased car seats, cribs, and supplies for parents who didn’t have the means. Most recently, during Thanksgiving, they provided over 300 turkeys and hams entirely out of pocket — no fundraisers, no promotions, no applause. Just the simple belief that generosity means the most when no one is watching.

“We don’t advertise what we do,” Ken said. “Giving only feels genuine when it comes from the heart, not from showboating.”

The restaurant has grown because of that philosophy — because people can feel when a place is built with authenticity.
