By Sharon Wren,
16 hours agoThe Knox-Galesburg Symphony presents its second performance of the season, “Light, Lyric and Lofty,” on November 14 at The Orpheum Theatre, 57 S. Kellogg Street in Galesburg. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m. Click here for tickets, call the Orpheum Theater at (309) 342-2299 or visit the box office Tuesday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., or just before the concert.
Justin Swearinger, assistant professor of music and Director of Instrumental Activities at Monmouth College, will conduct the concert, starting with the Overture to Mozart’s opera, The Marriage of Figaro. A flute concerto by Carl Reinecke, one of the most cherished works in the Romantic flute repertoire, and featuring KGS principal flutist Paul Mizzi follows.
The second half of the program will be devoted to Brahms’ 3rd Symphony, famous for the mysterious three note “motto” that opens the work and is thought to represent the sentiment, “free but happy.”
The Knox-Galesburg Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its 75th season of hosting orchestra concerts that inspire and entertain people of all ages.

Jovi Crossed the Country for a Fresh Start: Now He’s Still Waiting for His Forever Family
Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue is hoping the right family will help Jovi, a big-hearted, energetic two-year-old, find the lasting home he’s been waiting for. The 73-pound Golden-Hearted Pyrenees mix would do best with an active family, patient adopters committed to continued training, and a home with teenagers or older children. A quieter neighborhood and fenced yard would suit him, and a playful canine companion could be a plus, the Hudson, Massachusetts-based rescue says.
