The Atlanta Falcons have signed tight end Kyle Pitts to a record-breaking extension.

Full Story on NBot

Spoonfuls of cornmeal batter fry in a hot skillet until their exteriors become deeply golden and crisp while the centers remain tender and moist. Buttermilk, egg, melted butter, flour, baking powder, and a touch of sugar create a thick batter that cooks much like a small pancake. Depending on where they are served, these comforting rounds may be called fried cornbread, hoecakes, Johnny cakes, or cornmeal fritters, but their ability to complete a Southern meal remains the same.

Three-Ingredient Lemon Bars Turn Almost No Prep Into Bright, Sweet, Melt-in-Your-Mouth Dessert Squar

These three-ingredient lemon bars prove you don’t need a long shopping list to make something that tastes sunny, sweet, and completely dessert-worthy. Each square delivers bright lemon flavor with a soft, tender texture and just enough sweetness to balance that citrusy tang. A light dusting of powdered sugar can make the tops look bakery-ready, while the centers stay moist and luscious underneath. They’re the kind of simple lemon treat that tastes especially good chilled, when that fresh citrus flavor becomes even brighter and every little square feels like a cool burst of sweetness.

Four-Ingredient Southern Hoecakes Bring Serious Crispy Edges

Southern hoecakes turn four simple ingredients into golden cornmeal rounds with crisp edges and tender centers. Cooked in a hot skillet, they develop the satisfying exterior of fried cornbread while staying soft enough inside to absorb butter, syrup, gravy, or pot liquor. Their uncomplicated flavor makes them equally comfortable beside savory meals and sweeter breakfast toppings. The short ingredient list reflects their traditional roots, but the texture keeps them just as appealing on a modern table.

Mississippi Mud Potatoes Are the Side Dish Everyone Devours

Mississippi Mud Potatoes coat tender diced potatoes in a creamy mixture of cheddar, cream cheese, and sour cream. As the casserole bakes, the sauce melts around every potato and the top develops bubbling, golden patches. Bacon can bring smoky crunch, while onions or green onions add savory freshness. The finished dish is rich, cheesy, and substantial enough to challenge the main course for attention.

One-Pot Dirty Rice Delivers Southern Flavor in 35 Minutes

One-pot dirty rice with ground beef turns affordable ingredients into a bold Southern dinner in about 35 minutes. Ground beef provides hearty flavor and distributes evenly through the rice, while vegetables and Cajun-inspired seasoning give the dish its deep, savory character. The rice cooks in the same pot and absorbs the meat juices and spices, ensuring that every grain tastes intentional rather than like a plain side added afterward. Tomatoes bring color and acidity, helping balance the rich beef and warm seasoning.

7 Dishes That Filled Graduation Party Tables in the 1970s and 1980s

I use AI to help draft these articles. Every recipe and every fact in them is checked before publishing. The open house ran from noon until the food was gone, which was usually the better measure. Someone put up a banner over the garage door, someone else hauled in folding tables, and by one o'clock there were thirty people in the backyard, holding paper plates. The graduate circulated with an envelope in each hand. The adults stood over the tables and ate.

7 Rural Southern Church-Supper Dishes Still Worth Making

I use AI to help draft these articles. Every recipe and every fact in them is checked before publishing. A Midwestern potluck and a rural Southern church supper look similar from a distance: long folding tables, covered dishes, somebody's mother's dessert at the end of the line. Get closer and the resemblance fades fast. In much of the rural South, food was organized by type and the dessert table stood apart, treated almost as its own room. Brunswick Stew came in a cast iron pot the size of a washtub, tended by men who had been at the fire since before the service started. Cornbread baked in the church kitchen and got cut into squares before it hit the table. Banana Pudding traveled layered in a glass bowl, not a pan, because presentation on that table was its own kind of statement.

Sno-Ball Brownies Pile Creamy Sweetness and Coconut Over Rich, Fudgy Chocolate Squares

These Sno-Ball brownies take the nostalgic chocolate-and-coconut combination and turn it into a decadent pan of layered dessert bars. A rich, fudgy brownie base brings deep chocolate flavor, while a soft, creamy topping adds that unmistakable sweet contrast before everything gets finished with plenty of coconut. Cut into a square and you get dense chocolate, fluffy creaminess, and chewy coconut all in the same bite. They’re playful enough to remind you of a favorite packaged treat, but substantial enough to earn a prime spot on any homemade dessert table.

7 Suppers American Mothers Had Waiting on the First Day of School

I use AI to help draft these articles. Every recipe and every fact in them is checked before publishing. The first day of school had its own smell, something savory and onion-forward that filled the space between the front door and the kitchen and meant summer was officially over. The backpack landed on the floor, the shoes came off, and for the next hour a family packed a whole day of news around a kitchen table that had not been this loud since June.

7 Recipes From Spiral-Bound Community Charity Cookbooks

I use AI to help draft these articles. Every recipe and every fact in them is checked before publishing. The spiral-bound fundraising cookbook was a fixture of American small-town life for most of the twentieth century. A women's circle at a Methodist church in Abilene, a hospital auxiliary in Bozeman, the Junior League chapter in some county seat nobody outside the county had heard of, they collected index cards, typed the recipes, and sold the finished books at rummage sales and church bazaars to fund a new fellowship hall, a scholarship, a park bench. Across the country, thousands of these books got printed, and almost none of them traveled outside their own zip code.

7 Dishes Families Made When the Pastor Came to Sunday Dinner

I use AI to help draft these articles. Every recipe and every fact in them is checked before publishing. The invitation came after service, phrased as a question but understood as an honor: would the Reverend stay for dinner? In Baptist, Methodist, and AME congregations across the country in the 1950s and 1960s, having the pastor to Sunday dinner was a serious occasion. It wasn't everyday food. It was the food a family put forward as their best, cooked by the woman who had spent Saturday afternoon making sure everything was set.
