Thomas Sauer to perform at Central High School, QCSO

Davenport Central High School alumnus and acclaimed pianist Thomas Sauer is returning to the Quad Cities for a special guest artist visit with Central High School students ahead of his performance with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra.
Sauer will visit Davenport Central’s Performing Arts Center on Friday, Oct. 2 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. He will perform for the students, share stories from his career as a professional musician and answer questions about pursuing a career in music. Students will also be invited to attend his upcoming performances with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra for free.
The school visit is the day before Sauer takes the stage as guest artist for QCSO’s Masterworks I: Symphonie fantastique, the opening concert of the orchestra’s 112th season, Resonate. He will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, one of the composer’s most celebrated works for piano and orchestra, at the QCSO’s season opening concerts. The program will open with Dvořák’s Carnival Overture before Sauer joins the orchestra for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4. The concert will end with Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique, a vivid orchestral work exploring obsession, dreams and dazzling orchestral color.
Masterworks I: Symphonie fantastique will be performed on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Adler Theatre, 136 E. 3rd Street in Davenport. It will be performed on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. at Centennial Hall, Augustana College, 3703 7th Avenue in Rock Island.
