Bettendorf man sentenced after gunfire at motel in 2025: Court documents

10 hours agoA 57-year-old Bettendorf man was placed on two years of supervised probation after gunfire at a motel in 2025, according to a Scott County Court order of disposition.
Tommie Valentine Jr. had pleaded guilty to charges of dominion/control of a firearm/offensive weapon by a felon, affidavits say.
On Sept. 4, Valentine appeared with his attorney in Scott County Court, where he had pleaded guilty. A sentence of incarceration was suspended, and probation was "based on (Valentine's) maximum opportunity for rehabilitation in the community." Other charges were dismissed.
Gunfire in a motel room in 2025
On Aug. 27, 2025, officers saw a suspect in the area of a Bettendorf motel clutching his waistband and going into a room, according to an affidavit.
“Officers interviewed witnesses, who stated that the (man) had fired a small black handgun, apologized, and gone back inside (the room,)” affidavits show. Affidavits say officers found Valentine in a motel room. They also found a fired handgun round near the door and a loaded, small handgun hidden in the room.
Affidavits show Valentine had an unrelated warrant for his arrest. Valentine was arrested and taken to the Scott County Jail.
Police say it appears Valentine was alone in his room when he fired the gun. No one was
injured. “An investigation determined that (Valentine) shot the threshold of the door, causing damage to the entryway to the room,” according to affidavits.

7-Eleven clerk revives three overdosed customers
A 7-Eleven clerk in Denver has resuscitated three customers with Narcan in the past few months, and one of the rescues was witnessed by this reporter. Arica Crowley works in the 7-Eleven across from Quebec Square. She said she didn’t sign up to save lives when she applied at the retailer but doesn’t mind the extra duty. She said what disappoints her most is that many people, when revived, become angry and storm off without accepting further help. Coming out of the high with Narcan has been described as a hellacious experience.
