Davenport man sentenced to federal prison for possession of a firearm to further drug trafficking, possess with intent to distribute cocaine base
By Sharon Wren,
12 hours agoOn September 1, a Davenport man was sentenced to 78 months (6.5 years) in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine base and possession of a firearm in furtherance of his drug trafficking, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.
Public court documents show that Darnell Jermaine Garrett, 40, had two loaded firearms in the home where he sold cocaine base and marijuana. Garrett pistol-whipped a person at his home who he believed was stealing from him in August 2025.
Garrett will be required to serve a five-year term of supervised release after completing his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. United States Attorney David C. Waterman of the Southern District of Iowa announced the decision and the Scott County Sheriff's Office investigated the case.
