New DMV facility opens in Aledo

Aledo once again has a DMV facility.

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced the opening of a brand new, state-of-the-art DMV facility in Aledo, giving Mercer County residents convenient access to essential state services. The facility is designed to deliver faster service and increased efficiency, expand capacity and create a more seamless customer experience.

The new facility at 129 E. Main Street is the Secretary of State’s first One-Stop-Shop location in the Quad Cities area. The facility is open Monday – Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It offers a full range of services, including driver’s license applications and renewals, REAL ID applications, title and registration services, driving tests and license plate sticker renewals in one location. It features nearly 50% more square footage than the previous DMV location at 706 S.E. 3rd Street, which had been open since 1998. It also provides more parking capacity and improved customer accessibility.

“We’re not just restoring access to DMV services in Aledo, we’re elevating the customer
experience to better serve Mercer County residents,” said Giannoulias. “This new
location offers more space, better parking and a more efficient way to serve customers.
Our One-Stop-Shop model means residents can complete multiple transactions at a
single counter, making their visits quicker and easier.”

In the One-Stop-Shop model, cross-trained employees can complete several transactions at one counter. This lets customers complete more of their business in one visit, reduce waiting times and create a more streamlined customer experience.

“Having a DMV back in Aledo means residents no longer have to travel out of town for
services that are an important part of everyday life,” said Aledo City Administrator
Michael Chausse. “We appreciate Secretary Giannoulias and his team for listening to
our community and working with local leaders to make this new facility a reality. It’s a
great addition to downtown Aledo and will serve residents for years to come.”

“We’re excited to see this building become a place where Mercer County residents can
access essential state services close to home,” said WJ Albertson, the developer and
landlord of the new facility. “Working with the Secretary of State’s office and the city to
bring this project together has been a great partnership, and we’re proud to be part of
restoring this service to the community.”

After the previous facility closed, customers had to obtain services at nearby DMV locations in Silvis, Monmouth and Galesburg, as well as through online services.
