Public invited to reception to welcome new Muscatine Art Center director

The Muscatine Art Center and the City of Muscatine invite the public to a reception and welcome for new art-center director Kelly Lao to the community, a news release says.

Share an evening of art, conversation, and connection from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at 1314 Mulberry Ave. This free celebration will blend creativity, community spirit, and the excitement of a new chapter for the Muscatine Art Center.

Held in partnership with the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, this reception will introduce Lao to residents, stakeholders, and supporters of the arts. Guests will have the opportunity to meet Lao, learn about her vision for the Muscatine Art Center, and reflect together on the role that arts play in shaping Muscatine’s cultural landscape.

“I believe museums have the power to spark creativity, bring people together across generations and cultures, and serve as dynamic spaces where art, history, and community can intersect,” Lao said Kelly in sharing her perspective with warmth and purpose.

Throughout the evening, guests will be able to enjoy light refreshments, hors d’oeuvres, and conversation in a welcoming, gallery‑inspired atmosphere. Formal remarks begin at 6 p.m.

Visitors also can explore the current exhibition, Muscatine and the Civil War, which will remain open for viewing to offer a meaningful backdrop to an evening centered on art, history, and community.
