Foundation awards $260,000 in grants to Rock Island-Milan School District

On August 3, the Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation (RIMEF) awarded a record-breaking $260,888 in Promoting Rock Island-Milan Education (PRIME) Grants to teachers and educators of the Rock Island-Milan School District for the 2026-2027 school year.

The grants support innovative programs and classroom enhancements through individual teacher grants, department or school-wide grants and collaborative multi-school grants. This year’s grants will fund 151 new projects from 162 teachers/educators representing every school within the district.

“PRIME Grants are a vital resource for innovative programs and materials in our classrooms and schools,” said Monta Ponsetto, Executive Director. “Thousands of RIMSD scholars from pre-K to high school have benefited from the projects PRIME Grants have provided. The Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation is excited to support our teachers in presenting these awards once again this year.”

“The Rock Island–Milan School District is deeply grateful to the Rock Island–Milan Education Foundation and its generous donors for their unwavering support of our scholars and educators,” said Dr. Sharon Williams, Superintendent of Schools. “PRIME Grants empower our teachers, staff and leaders to bring innovative ideas to life, creating meaningful learning experiences that inspire curiosity, foster achievement, and leave a lasting impact on the lives of our scholars.”

Funding for this year’s grants came from the support of individual and community donors, along with contributions from the Rock Island Art Guild and Barbara Fackel Fund. The foundation has awarded $2,011,142 to district schools since the grant program began.
