First Army hosting relinquishment of command, retirement ceremonies for Lt. Gen. Mark Landes

First Army is hosting two military ceremonies next week outside Quarters One in honor of its departing commanding general.

First Army is saying farewell to Commanding General Lt. Gen. Mark H. Landes during a relinquishment of command ceremony on August 7 at 9 a.m. Landes has led First Army since September 2024. He has served the United States Army for over three decades as an infantry officer and senior leader.

He was commissioned upon graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1990 and has built a distinguished career leading soldiers in mechanized, light, airborne and Stryker formations worldwide. Landes served as the commanding general, First Army Division East at Fort Knox, Kentucky before serving as First Army commanding general.

First Army is hosting Landes’ retirement ceremony after 34 years in the Army, following the relinquishment of command ceremony.

Russia has about 143 million. Even using the higher Ukrainian estimate, that’s a population edge of close to four to one before a single shot is fired, a bottomless well of conscripts, mechanics, drivers, factory hands, and mothers who will bury their sons and keep sending more, because the Putin’s state machine keeps running regardless.
