Davenport Community School District names new administrators for 2026-27 year

The Davenport Community School District has named new administrators for the 2026–2027 school year effective July 1, a news release says.

“Strong leadership is essential to creating exceptional learning experiences for our students,” said Superintendent TJ Schneckloth. “Each of these administrators has demonstrated a deep commitment to educational excellence, collaboration, and student achievement. We are excited to welcome them into these new leadership roles and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our schools and our community.”

Bernadette “Bernie” Brustkern

Bernadette “Bernie” Brustkern has been selected as the district’s new executive director of learning and results, With nearly 20 years of experience in education, Brustkern brings extensive expertise in instructional leadership, curriculum development, and continuous improvement. She began her career in the North Scott School District as a classroom teacher before serving as an elementary principal and later director of curriculum and Instruction. Most recently, she served as director of secondary education for the Pleasant Valley School District, where she led secondary programming and partnered with educators to strengthen teaching and learning across the district.

Mike Orfitelli

Mike Orfitelli has been selected as principal of West High School. Orfitelli has dedicated his career to serving Davenport students, beginning as a science teacher before advancing into numerous leadership roles across the district. During the past eight years, he has served as associate principal at West High School. His previous leadership experience includes principal of Garfield Elementary School, associate principal at Central High School, and associate
principal and athletic director at North High School.

Aaron Vincent

Aaron Vincent has been selected as principal of Sudlow Middle School. Vincent has served as principal of McKinley Elementary School for the past 11 years, where he has fostered a culture of collaboration, academic excellence, and student-centered leadership. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with staff and families to create learning environments where students thrive.

Nick Proud

Nick Proud has been selected as principal of McKinley Elementary School. His career includes serving as principal of Buford Garner Elementary School, chief human resources officer, and executive director of secondary schools for the Iowa City Community School District. He began his career as an elementary teacher and high school coach, providing him with a strong foundation in instructional leadership and student development.
