This summer, Knox College is offering free summer pop-up art workshops for all ages and skill levels through the Arts in Action program. Participants can learn various forms of art, including collage, drawing, music, poetry, and printmaking. Associate Professor of Dance Kathleen Ridlon will oversee the work of six Knox student artists, a news release says.

“The goal is to bring people together to have a shared experience where being social is as important as the art-making process,” Ridlon said.

The 2026 community partnerships include the Galesburg Community Arts Center, the Galesburg Public Library, and the Hawthorne Inn. All events are open to the public and registration is required. Additional information and registration links are available here and here.

The Galesburg Community Arts Center will host “Songs in Our Lives: A Gathering for Music Appreciation” from 5-7 p.m. July 1. Participants will submit a song that holds special meaning and then share their story.

“Protests Prints: Art that Activates” on July 11 runs from 1-3 p.m. and on July 15 from 5-7 p.m. In the class for teens and older, participants will find their cause and use art as a form of resistance by crafting their own print.

The Galesburg Public Library will hot “Poetry in Action: Craft and Catharsis” on July 6, July 11, and July 18, with each class running from 3-4 p.m. Those in attendance will read, write, and share their creative side as they examine the spectrum of human emotions.

Drawn Easy workshops are also being offered to the residents of the Hawthorne Inn of Galesburg.
