QCA celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day

National Girls and Women in Sports Day is a holiday that started back in 1987.
It’s meant to inspire girls and women to play, be active, and realize their full power. The holiday, though, doesn’t just celebrate the success of female athletes, but also brings attention to women
who are working behind the scenes and serving in front office roles.
“We have tracks for, specifically for, women in sports,” said Joan Kranovich, vice president of business growth and director of Sports QC. “I’ve seen it grow quite a bit and it’s really been a positive movement, and I know there are stars that are helping make this happen, but it’s also the women that are saying, ‘Hey, there is a spot for me working in sports. It’s not only just a man’s job.'”
National Girls and Women in Sports Day is typically recognized during the first week in February. According to the Women’s Sports Foundation , the holiday was started to remember, Flo Hyman, an Olympic volleyball player, for her athletic achievements and dedication to promoting equality for women’s sports.

Forever Paws Animal Shelter in Fall River, Massachusetts, is looking for a calm, loving home for Mei Mei, a “teeny tiny lady” Shih Tzu mix who is “about two years old and just under 9lbs,” according to the shelter. The rescue says Mei Mei is “having a hard time adjusting to shelter life” and is “looking for a safe, soft place to land.”
