Livingston High School Boys Track and Field Team Off to Fast Start in 2024 Season

LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston High School (LHS) boys track and field team is off to a fast start to the 2024 season and is currently undefeated in dual meets with convincing wins over Columbia High School, Payne Technical School and North Star Academy.
Weekend meets have included the DodgerTown Relays, Morris Hills Relays and East Stroudsburg University’s Red & Black Invitational.
Standout Lancer performances so far have included the following:
Sam Jean Marie, a freshman shot putter, has shattered the LHS freshman record (42-8.5) and is making an instant contribution to the team. His brother Joseph Jean Marie (40-4) and Karim Barakat (40-5) complete the over 40 feet squad.
Raalu Madubuko was first at the Red & Black Invitational with a time of 15.01. He is now ranked 10th in the state. Gabe Lopez-Simpson and Nick Siao are also showing good form in the 110 and 400 hurdles.
Luke Petryna returned to the track at Red & Black with an impressive 100-meter win at 10.87, ranking him sixth in the state. Corey Leavy placed second at 11.0 and Brandon Dong was fourth at 11.09. Leavy also ran a personal best in the 200 m (22.69), placing second.
These three boys along with Chase Kaufman and Henry Lwamba will head to Penn Relays on April 27 in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays.
Distance runners Shane Lyons, Ricky Romero, Danny Wang and Sean Tesoriero placed third at Morris Hills Relays in the 4x1600 (19:01) and then came back with a fifth-place finish in the 4x800 (8:32.72). At Red & Black, multiple athletes ran personal bests, including Jinay Veera, Ryan Kropac, SenJun Lu, Matt Chong and Josh Park.
The LHS jumpers are led by Lopez-Simpson who has twice long jumped 21-1.5. Lwamba (19-10), Petryna (19-2), and Will Sun (18-2) add to the squad. In the Triple Jump, Lopez-Simpson (38-1.25) and Madubuko (39-6) look strong early in the season.
In High Jump, Tesoriero is the leader with clears 5-6. Smith-Harris, Jesse Kauman and Madubuko are working to raise their personal bests. Siao (11-6) and Lopez-Simpson (8-0) make up the pole vault crew.
In the Discus, J. Jean-Marie, Barakat, Jack Burach, Grayson Alpert and Eddy Belachew continue to work hard to build up their throws leading up to Essex County Relays where only two will be able to team up. In the Javelin, Jeff Rabinowitz, Francis Fryckowski, Burach and Alpert round out the Javelin squad.
LHS continues to have a group of talented sprinters who will make a difference for the team with Chase Wade, a force in the 100, 200 and 400. Brandon Lee, Sun, Smith-Harris and J. Kaufman are also showing good form among the many hard-working sprinters.
The team will head to Millburn this weekend for the Millburn Relays before hosting the Essex County Relays at LHS on May 3 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
