Most people in the area know the remarkable renovation underway in the Town of Littleton thanks to the Fitts Foundation. Another group making inroads in the town’s development is the Greater Littleton Development Partnership.

The non-profit GLDP was established in 2018 by a core group of citizens who love the Town of Littleton. What’s the mission of the GLDP?

“Our purpose is to help grow and develop the Town of Littleton with beautification projects and events to bring people to our town to visit our businesses,” acting group secretary Lori Zito said. “We do anything we can do to help promote the growth and development of Littleton.”

The GLDP heads up the town’s always-popular First Friday events in the spring. It’s also responsible for the stage, revamped parking lot, and many of the beautification projects in the municipality.

Last week GLDP leaders presented an overview of events planned throughout the year. The famous Littleton Market & Mercantile events kick off on April 1, followed by Littleton Market & Mercantile events on July 8 and Oct. 14. The Farmer’s Market, artisans, and other groups assist the GLDP in the events that bring people to spend dollars in the township.

On May 26, the Feature Attraction Band comes to Littleton from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. for the Memorial Day weekend Friday night concert. Other bands coming throughout the summer for the First Friday Summer Concert Series are the Daniel Jordan Band, East Coast Rhythm and Blues Band, and Brake Tyme Band. The First Friday Summer Concert Series performances are from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. on the first Friday in June, July, and August on the outdoor stage in the middle of town.

The end of the summer does not run out the GLDP events calendar for 2023. The group is sponsoring an Oct. 31 Halloween Trunk-or-Treat, a Nov. 25 Light up Littleton, and Dec. 9 Christmas Caroling/Luminaries events.

How does one get to become a part of the GLDP?

“Our meetings are open to anyone who wants to come,” Zito said. “We meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Littleton Lions Club at 103 Ransom St. The annual membership fee is $10. You don’t have to pay it. All that does is give you voting rights.”

Buddy Isles, Sr., is the president of the GLDP. Brian Teele is vice president, and Jan Sullivan is the group’s treasurer. Zito is officially the acting secretary but describes herself as the typical jack of all trades for the GLDP. She coordinates the First Friday events and is involved with most of what happens through the GLDP name. Zito said social media is a great way to learn about the GLDP.

“We have a Facebook page, a website, and Instagram account, and we are always putting something on our social media,” she said. “We try to share them with Littleton and lake community groups that use social media. We also put a calendar up in the Littleton parking lot on the First Fridays and expand that to be our calendar through the year.”

Once opening the group’s website, www.gldpnc.com, the logo and the words Littleton, the little town with a BIG heart, stand out. Those seeking to find out more about the GLDP can send an email to the group at littletondevelopment@gmail.com, and one of the members will answer your inquiries.

Littleton is a town on the rise, and the GLDP plays a critical role in the municipality’s makeover.
