New Hartford nonprofit receives $50,000 grant for new adaptive sports equipment
NEW HARTFORD, Conn. — Summit Adaptive Sports, Inc., a nonprofit based in New Hartford, recently received a $50,000 grant from The Hartford for new adaptive sports equipment. Summit Adaptive Sports is a member of the Move United network, which works to ensure everyone, regardless of ability, has equal access to sports and recreation in their community. A release from the nonprofit on Thursday said that the grant will allow for the purchase of alpine and Nordic sit skis, custom kayaks and paddleboards and adapted mountain bikes, which will expand winter and summer sports programming for individuals with disabilities.

Police, animal advocates say dog dumping becoming a growing issue in Connecticut
There's a concerning trend happening across the state, animal advocates say, of people dumping dogs and other animals more and more frequently. Last weekend, a dog was found dumped on the side of a road in Wolcott with only a container of food. There were also dogs found abandoned in Naugatuck, Meriden, and Stamford, animal advocates from Desmond's Army said.

WOLCOTT, CT (WFSB) - After she was abandoned on the side of the road, a Wolcott dog is now looking for her forever home. Mya, who was dumped at an intersection in Wolcott on April 16, is finally up for adoption after being reunited with her pups and taken in by the Wolcott Dog Pound. The man suspected of abandoning her days after she gave birth and selling her puppies was arrested in late May.
