THE BUST HAPPENING AROUND 8 O'CLOCK LAST NIGHT AT A LARGE HOUSE ON 93 MAIN STREET. POLICE TELL US THIS FOLLOWS A MONTH-LONG INVESTIGATION THAT STARTED WITH A HIT AND RUN.. Lisbon Falls Police say people are all illegal or undocumented

Federal and local officials arrested 17 at a home in Lisbon Falls, calling them all "illegal and undocumented immigrants."At around 8 p.m., Tuesday, local police and U.S. Border Patrol agents conducted an investigation at a large home at 93 Main Street in Lisbon Falls, officials say.Police Chief Ryan McGee says criminal charges are expected through Border Patrol. He told Maine's Total Coverage on Wednesday that the arrests follow a month-long investigation that started with a hit-and-run involving at least one of the immigrants."It went smooth last night," said McGee. "Everybody was very cooperative. We did have two that initially tried to take off, but everybody was cooperative. The U.S. Border Patrol did an outstanding job, treat everybody very well. It was obviously a language barrier. However, Border Patrol, they all know Spanish. They were able to speak fluently with them, which was which was a big help."He said all 17 people who were arrested are from Central America but it was still unclear Wednesday why there were all in Maine."You know, I'm sure some of them are here to work. But on the other side of it, you know, there's other reasons why people come into the United States," said McGee.The people who were arrested were brought to detention centers in Rangeley, which is where the Rangeley Station for U.S. Customs and Border Patrol is located.Maine's Total Coverage did speak with Border Patrol on Wednesday and was told that that agency would be releasing more information as soon as agents were able to speak with all 17 people who were arrested.
