A motorcyclist died Friday, June 2, 2023, after attempting to pass a pickup truck on Hwy 126 E in Linn County, said Oregon State Police (OSP) in a press release.
OSP responded to the two-vehicle crash on Hwy 126, near milepost 13, around 8:53 p.m. Friday night.
Officials say preliminary investigations show that a white Toyota pickup, operated by 40-year-old Frederick Dawson, of Eugene, was driving eastbound when Dawson attempted to make a left turn into a nearby campground. OSP says a a black Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by 46-year-old Sean Lenninger, was traveling eastbound behind the Toyota and attempted to pass it on the left side.
OSP says that's when the motorcycle clipped the front driver side of the Toyota and subsequently left the roadway.
Medical personnel at the scene of the crash declared Lenninger dead at the scene.
OSP says Dawson was transported by medics to the University District Hospital in Eugene with minor injuries.
Hwy. 126 was impacted for about 1 hour Friday during the on-scene investigation.
OSP was assisted by McKenzie Fire and ODOT.
